Welcome to ChapterSwaps! By using our platform, you agree to these terms. We've kept them clear and straightforward — no legalese buried in walls of text.

Using ChapterSwaps

ChapterSwaps connects readers who want to share and exchange books with one another. To use the platform, you need to create an account with accurate information and act honestly throughout the swapping process.

Books and Ownership

A swap is permanent.When you list a book and accept someone's request, you are giving that book away — not lending it. Once the parcel has been sent, the book belongs to the person who received it.

They are free to keep it, read it, list it again on ChapterSwaps, give it to a friend, or dispose of it however they wish. You cannot ask for a book back once a swap is complete, and the recipient is under no obligation to return it, replace it, or pay for it.

Only list books that are yours to give away.Please don't list borrowed books, library books, books belonging to someone else in your household, or anything you might want back later.

If you change your mind, you can decline or cancel a request at any point before a shipping label has been created. After that, the swap is going ahead.

Your Responsibilities

As a member of the community, you agree to:

• List books accurately, including their condition.
• Package books carefully and appropriately for shipping.
• Communicate respectfully with other members.
• Ship accepted swaps within a reasonable timeframe.
• Use the platform lawfully and in good faith.

What's Not Allowed

• Fraudulent activity or scamming other members.
• Harassment, abuse, or threatening behaviour.
• Deliberately misrepresenting books or their condition.
• Attempting to bypass platform safeguards or payment systems.
• Creating multiple accounts to manipulate the system.

Shipping & Liability

ChapterSwaps facilitates swaps between members and provides prepaid shipping labels through our carrier partners. However, we are not responsible for loss, damage, or delays caused by shipping carriers once a parcel has been handed over.

If a book arrives damaged or doesn't arrive at all, you can raise a dispute from your Library within 14 days of the swap completing. We aim to respond within 3 working days, and if a dispute isn't resolved within 14 days your postage is refunded automatically.

The most we can ever refund is the postage you paid. Because no money changes hands for the book itself, we cannot replace a lost or damaged book or compensate you for its value.

Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms or harm the community. You can delete your own account at any time from Settings — this permanently removes your profile, listings and personal data.

Deleting your account does not undo completed swaps. Books already sent stay with the people who received them.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms occasionally. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know via email or a notice on the platform.
